Creating your first Web Page- HTML 5

§       HTML stands for Hypertext markup language.

§       HTML is be used to create web sites.

 

Necessary tags and their definitions:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Title of the page</title>
</head>
<body>
 
<h1> Heading </h1>
<p> Paragraph </p>
 
</body>
</html>

The HTML format should always be in the given procedure.

 

<!DOCTYPE html>

§  You call it a doctype declaration. DOCTYPE declaration is a reference to a document type definition.

§  All HTML documents must start with <!DOCTYPE html>

§  It helps the webpage recognize what version of markup language is being used.

§  DOCTYPE html should always come on the top of all the HTML tags, as it should be easier for the web browser to recognize it.

 

<head> HTML Head

§  The HTML head element can consist title for the document, styles, meta data, scripts, link and other.

§  The HTML Head includes the general information of the complete HTML file.

 

<title> Title

§  It is the title of the document.

§  It will display the title for your web page in other search engines.

§  The <title> tag defines the title in the web browser.

 

The title needs the closing tag for web browser to render your documents title.

 

<body> Body

§  HTML Body contains the all the main content of the HTML document.

§  The body tag defines the document’s body.

§  Texts, hyperlinks, images, tables, lists, etc. goes under the body tag.

§  The content in the <body> tag is directly displayed in your web browser.

 

HTML Heading

§  HTML specifies six headings.

§  The heading are h1, h2, h3, h4, h5 and h6.

§  H1 defines the most important heading in the document whereas h6 defines the least important.  

The <h1> tag is the main heading of your page, <h2> being the sub heading and so on. Heading tags are simply for the search engine to recognize what is important in the document.

Heading Align

Heading tag helps you divide up the document. You can place headings anywhere in the page being right, left, center.

 

<h1 align=”center”> Heading 1</h1>
<h2 align=”right”> Heading 2</h2>
<h3 align=”left”> Heading 3</h3>

 

<p> Paragraph

§  The <p> tag represents a paragraph.

§  HTML ignores extra spaces or lines in the paragraph and will not display them.

§  The paragraph tag starts with <p> tag and closes with </p> when the paragraph ends.  

Example:

<p>
 This is a paragraph.  Content and lines will come here.  
         Extra spaces like these will be ignored in the browser.
</p>
 
<p>
This is another paragraph.
This paragraph contains a lot 
       of lines  but the browser will ignore it.
</p>

To create a web page, the HTML format should always be in the right procedure as given in the example before.
Tags and elements should be placed accordingly.
